Lido Azzurro in Marina di Ragusa: Beachfront Bliss

Located in the heart of Marina de Ragusa, Lido Azzurro da Serafino is quite possibly the most sumptuous beachfront restaurant in all of south-east Sicily. Founded in 1953 by Serafino La Rosa and now managed by his sons, Antonio and Giuseppe, Lido Azzurro is the hip beach club sister of celebrated Relais & Châteaux Locanda Don Serafino in Ragusa Ibla, one of the finest hotels with an acclaimed Michelin starred restaurant. The cuisine at Lido Azzuro is as exceptional, and located on the beach in Marina di Ragusa overlooking the sparkling blue Mediterranean, the combination is magical. During the day, they also rent sun lounges with umbrellas on their private beach at a modest fee.

Arriving for lunch on our second day in Sicily, we were seated at a glorious table facing the beach under a stylish overhead awning to protect us from the hot noonday sun. Beginning with a glass of cold Planeta Classico Prosecco, we sat back and enjoyed the bubbley while drinking in the liquid blue view. Known for their outstanding menu which specializes in local fish and seafood, as well as their homemade pasta, we were spoiled with choices. In true Sicilian fashion, we started with a Gran Frittura Mediterranean of red prawns, shrimp, calamari and paranza, a small but delicious Sicilian fish, as well as enjoying a Locanda Don Serafino Etna Bianco, which paired perfectly with the frittura. The pastas, all homemade, are not to be missed, especially the Spaghetti di Gragnano ai ricci di mare, an outstanding dish rich with fresh sea urchins which was absolutely delicious and my favourite pasta of the whole trip or even the past decade. Falling in love with the food, wine and sensational location, we made a vow to return and spend the whole day on the beach, and of course another Lido Azzurro lunch.

For lunch, we ordered a bottle of Locanda Don Serafino Etna Bianco,
which celebrates the power of terroir and the volcanic soils of Etna in making exceptional wine

Placed in an ice filled wine bucket, the Etna Bianco was very happy on a hot afternoon
