Warm and welcoming, Borgo Nove is a charming restaurant in the small town of Comiso, serving casual Sicilian dishes from wood fired pizza, homemade pasta and selection of grilled steak, pork and chicken. The interior is bright and cheerful with honey coloured exposed stone walls, linen topped wood tables and decorated with beautiful Sicilian ceramics. Arriving for a light dinner after spending the day at Villa Romana del Casale, we were seated at a lovely table in the main dining room and chose a delicious Paolo Cali 'Manene' Cerasuolo di Vittoria Nero d'Avola from their small but impressive wine list. Beginning with a crisp Bibb Lettuce and Arugula Salad, we decided to try the Grilled Argentinian Entrecôte with fried potatoes and Schiacciata Catanese Focaccia which our server recommended. A little surprised, the 'focaccia' was served at the end of the meal. Even more surprising was the size of the dish — a deep dish Catania-style pizza that could have fed a small family. We shared one slice, which was delicious. Thankfully, the owner came to our rescue, and packaged it up for us to take home. Although we were one of the first to arrive for dinner, Borgo Nove was full by the time we left. Famous for their pizza, it's nice to see this local family-run restaurant do so well.

Filled to bursting with mozzarella, ham, onion, potato and pecorino, the focaccia was delicious but much more than we anticipated and shared just one slice
