The family run Can Majó was founded in 1968, a time when Barceloneta was still a small fishing village. Now one of the most established seafood restaurants in Barceloneta, Can Majó still sits alongside the original 'chiringuitos', or old shanty style beachfront bars that used to line the shore here. Even so, there's nothing 'shanty' about the décor at Can Majó, with its elegant nautical-inspired interior, linen tablecloths and original seafaring paintings that line the walls. Considered one of the best places for fresh fish and paella in Barcelona, the menu is clear and simple: fresh seafood of impeccable quality along with paellas, fideuàs, rich homemade desserts, and a wine list that offers a wide range from delicious local wines to fine vintages from Rioja and Navarra. While paella traces it’s origins to Valencia, the dish can be found all around the Spanish Mediterranean, with each region having a unique variation, the best seafood paellas in Barcelona can be found at Can Majó, prepared with only the freshest seafood brought in from the coast every day. Enrique, the owner, is personally in charge of buying the fresh ingredients, something he learnt from his father who used to work as a fisherman in the village, alongside his wife Maria who would weave her magic in the kitchen, a tradition which has been inherited by their children Enrique and Rosa, who nowadays manage the restaurant with their parents, the heart and culinary soul of Barceloneta.
