With refined Mediterranean and Tuscan grilled dishes overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea and relaxing on the sun-drenched outdoor terrace, dining at Pelligrill, the iconic al fresco restaurant perched on the cliffs of the legendary Hotel Il Pellicano, is one of life's great pleasures. Arriving for lunch after a morning sunbathing by the pool, we were seated at the perfect corner table with lovely views of the sea, and with the days hovering around 40° celsius, made that sea breeze feel like magic. Beginning with a glass of chilled Franciacorta Brut 25 Fratelli Berlucchi, it was the perfect beginning to a lovely lunch.
Warm fresh baked focaccia and squishy olive bread
Insalate Caprese served with fresh, local heirloom tomatoes and creamy buffalo mozzarella drizzled with premium Tuscan olive oil and garnished with fresh basil from the garden
sourced from the neighbouring Piemonte region
Santa Lucia Bigante Vermentino Costa Toscana from Maremma
Pelligrill's signature pasta combines sweet fresh clams with delicate, seasonal zucchini flowers, garlic, olive oil, white wine, and a whisper of saffron for balance, colour, and a taste of the sea
Paccheri tossed in a rich, vibrant sauce made from fresh local tomatoes
A bright, fragrant Tuscan white and absolutely delicious
and garnished with basil
A scoop of homemade vanilla gelato
A plate of homemade cookies, compliments of chef Michelino Gioia
Walking up from Pelligrill after lunch
An inviting black and white seat and blossoming orange tree
We did purchase this canvas bag with the Hotel Il Pellicano logo,
to tote our purchases that we were sure acquire during our upcoming month in Italy
we walked down to the pool to relax after our lovely lunch
