Our Sicilian Villa in Comiso: A Tranquil Oasis

Surrounded by a lush garden of palm trees with sparkling blue swimming pool, the private villa that we rented for two weeks in Sicily was just outside of the quaint town of Comiso and offered a tranquil base for exploring the islands cultural treasures and stunning beaches, for a culinary and cultural journey that would be unique among the many regions of Italy that we have visited. Bursting at the seams with artistic and architectural gems, Sicily has been praised by poets from Homer to Virgil and prized by the many ancient cultures, from the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Elymians, Romans, Greeks, Arabs and Normans whose bones lie buried here, whether in the classical perfection of Agrigento's Concordia temple, the monumental mosaics of Villa Romana del Casaale or Syracusa's spectacular Roman Amphitheater and Teatro Greco. Reminders of bygone civilisations are everywhere and have created Sicily’s unique identity and rich culinary history from superb arancini, iconic pasta alla Norma and luscious aubergine caponata to the stunning variety of impossibly fresh fish, seafood and heavenly pesce crudo — รจ il cibo del paradiso.

  1. I love your posts, but you make some crazy mistakes on flowers! In this latest blog, you refer to a Hibiscus as a Mandevilla, and there have been many other slips in the past. Please don't stop trying though - your blogs are smashing!
