In the last decade, Aperol Spritz with Prosecco has become one of the most popular drinks served in Italy. A wonderfully refreshing and light aperitif that's commonly served in the northern part of Italy, it's especially popular in Venice where it's simply called a “spreetz.” Made by Campari, it's only been available in North America for a few years. Less bitter than Campari, Aperol actually comes from the Veneto, which makes sense since that’s where Prosecco is also made. Low in alcohol, the Italian spritz is a great way to start any summer meal as it whets the appetite for the delicacies yet to be served. Bright orange in color, Aperol has a unique taste, with infusions of bitter and sweet oranges and many other herbs and roots mixed in perfect proportions. Poured over ice and garnished with a slice of blood orange, Aperol & Prosecco is the perfect citrusy summertime cocktail — like a glass of liquid sunshine.
