Set within the Alhambra grounds, the charming early 19th-century family-run Hotel América is full of character and still retains its traditional inner courtyard, with a light lunch offered in its tiny dining room during the week. After a full morning exploring the spectacular Alhambra and Generalife Palace Gardens with our enormously knowledgable and charismatic guide Juan Civantos, we decided to stop for lunch at this tiny hotel, before heading back to our suite at the Parador de Granada. The menu with home-made recipes, passed down from generation to generation, featured a section of traditional Andalusian dishes such as Salmorejo, Tortilla Española, Benenjenas Fritos plus a selection of traditional stews, salads and sandwiches. Looking forward to a lovely dinner tonight, we showed some restraint and enjoyed a cold local beer, glass of Rioja and two light dishes: a light Spanish Omelette with mixed vegetable salad, and tasty Tuna Salad with red peppers, eggs and asparagus.
